METRO 2039: Everything We Know About the Release

METRO 2039 sends you back into the tunnels beneath Moscow. The new first-person shooter from 4A Games launches on February 4, 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here's everything we know about story, gameplay, editions and price.

METRO 2039 release and platforms

According to Deep Silver, METRO 2039 launches on February 4, 2027. You can already pre-order the game for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The shooter is being developed by 4A Games, the studio behind the entire Metro series. Deep Silver is on board as publisher once again.

On Steam, METRO 2039 is currently listed at €69.99 for the Standard Edition. According to Steam, the game offers full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense. German text and German voice acting are also confirmed.

Story: The year 2039 in the Novoreich

For a quarter of a century, the last survivors of the nuclear war have been fighting each other in the tunnels beneath contaminated Moscow. In METRO 2039, they are united under a single leader for the first time: the fanatical Spartan Hunter. But that doesn't bring peace. Hunter's regime, the Novoreich, rules through propaganda and fear and is preparing a new war for the surface.

In the wilderness beyond the city, the reclusive Stranger is haunted by violent nightmares. When the ghosts of his past drive him out of exile, he has to return to the ruins of Moscow, to the one place he never wanted to go back to: the Metro. The universe is still based on the work of author Dmitry Glukhovsky, who wrote the Metro novels.

METRO 2039 gameplay

Deep Silver promises the “most shocking Metro adventure yet.” METRO 2039 is a purely single-player experience that combines exploration, survival, combat and stealth in a beautiful but deadly world. As is tradition for the series, you experience the action from a first-person perspective.

The screenshots show cramped tunnels and workshops as well as ruined streets on the surface. Up there, it's not just Novoreich soldiers waiting for you, but mutants too.

Editions and price

According to the official website, there will be three editions of METRO 2039 at launch:

System requirements

Deep Silver hasn't published the exact system requirements for METRO 2039 yet. According to Steam, the only thing confirmed so far is that a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system are required. As soon as the specs are official, you'll find them in the table below this article.
