For me, Marvel's Blade has been one of my most anticipated games ever since it was announced. Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop, is turning the vampire hunter into a single-player adventure set in Paris. Here you'll find everything known so far about story, gameplay, release and the studio's current situation.

Rating and verdict

Click a circle to see the reasoning.

For me, Marvel's Blade is one of the most exciting superhero games, period. With Dishonored and Deathloop, Arkane Lyon has shown how well the studio combines atmosphere, player freedom and style, and Blade fits that signature perfectly.

So far, though, all we've seen is a teaser. On top of that, there's the studio's uncertain situation. My expectations are high, with a clear question mark attached.

What we liked

✅ Arkane Lyon knows Paris and dense levels inside out

✅ As a grown-up vampire hunter, Blade is tailor-made for an action game

✅ Strong, atmospheric reveal trailer

What bothered us

❌ Hardly any gameplay so far, no date and no platforms

❌ The studio's future is uncertain

❌ Redfall was Arkane's most recent misfire

Score: 80 %

Marvel's Blade: Story: Vampire hunting in Paris

Marvel's Blade tells a standalone story about Eric Brooks, aka Blade. The half-vampire, who has the strengths of vampires but none of their weaknesses, hunts the creatures of the night. The setting is a dark, fictionalized version of Paris, which is Arkane Lyon's home city.

Marvel Games and Bethesda have revealed hardly any details about the plot so far. The only thing that's clear: it's a completely new story that isn't tied to the movies.

Gameplay: What we know so far

Marvel's Blade is a single-player, third-person action game. There's no real gameplay footage yet; the reveal trailer only shows a cutscene in a barbershop that ends in a fight. I'm still expecting a lot: Arkane stands for levels with lots of paths, creative abilities and freedom in how you approach things.

If you've played Deathloop or Dishonored, you know how well the studio blends combat and exploration. With a sword, firearms and vampire powers, Blade has exactly the right tools for that style.

Arkane Lyon and the project's future

The situation around Marvel's Blade is currently difficult. In summer 2026, Microsoft launched a consultation process with employee representatives at Arkane Studios in Lyon to review strategic options for the studio. Microsoft has since extended that deadline by a month, partly to find a partner for further development. According to Microsoft, no final decision has been made yet.

That means Marvel's Blade hasn't been officially canceled. But what happens to the project depends heavily on whether a buyer or partner for the studio can be found.

Release, platforms and developer

Marvel's Blade was announced on December 7, 2023 at The Game Awards. It's being developed by Arkane Lyon, a studio of Arkane Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks in collaboration with Marvel Games. There's no release date, price or confirmed platforms yet.
