For me, DOOM and DOOM II are hands-on gaming history. With DOOM + DOOM II, I get both classics in a modern version that runs flawlessly on current PCs. Within minutes, I was right back in that 1993 feeling, just without the DOS tinkering.

Rating and verdict
DOOM + DOOM II is the best way to play the classics today. Nightdive's re-release brings widescreen, high resolutions, online co-op and deathmatch, plus mod support. On top of that, Legacy of Rust even adds a completely new episode.
Of course, the graphics are from back then, and if you're used to modern shooters, the controls take some getting used to. But for fans and the curious alike, it's a fantastic package.
What we liked
- ✅ Both classics in a modern version
- ✅ New episode Legacy of Rust
- ✅ Online co-op, deathmatch and mod support
What bothered us
- ❌ Visuals have naturally aged a lot
- ❌ Controls feel unfamiliar for newcomers
- ❌ Little story
Our overall score for DOOM + DOOM II: 86%
Two classics in one package
DOOM + DOOM II includes both originals along with expansions like Master Levels, No Rest for the Living, SIGIL and Final DOOM. You fight your way through demon-infested mazes, hunt for keycards and find countless secrets.
The level design is still impressive today. Many modern shooters could still learn a thing or two from it, especially when it comes to intricate levels and secret rooms.

DOOM + DOOM II and what's new
The re-release uses the KEX Engine and brings widescreen, 4K and high frame rates. On top of that, there's online multiplayer with co-op and deathmatch, cross-platform play and easy mod integration.
Legacy of Rust also adds a new episode with new weapons and enemies. For a package from 2024, that's an impressive level of attention to detail.

Who is the package for?
If you've never played DOOM, this is the perfect opportunity. If you already owned the games, you even get the upgrade for free.
Getting started feels a bit unusual, since you don't aim up or down. But after a few minutes, you're right back in the groove.
Tech and system requirements
Thanks to the KEX Engine, the classics run perfectly on any modern PC, with widescreen and high frame rates. Optionally, you can also choose the original look and the original aspect ratio.
