Almost 25 years after the GameCube classic, the kaiju brawler is back: Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches on November 3, 2026. The remaster is once again developed by Pipeworks Studios, the team behind the original, and published by Atari. Here’s everything you need to know about the release, monsters, modes and tech.

Release, platforms and price

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches on November 3, 2026 on PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. According to Atari, it unlocks worldwide at 9 a.m. ET, which is 3 p.m. in Germany. Atari has set the price at $29.99; a euro price hadn’t been listed on Steam at the time of writing.

A free Steam demo already ran from October 15 to 27. It let players take Godzilla, Gigan and King Ghidorah into matches against bots or online, try out destruction mode and practice combos in training.

What is Destroy All Monsters Melee?

The original came out in 2002 on GameCube and Xbox and is still one of the most beloved Godzilla games ever made. It was never a traditional fighting game but a heavy-hitting arena brawler where giant monsters reduce whole cities to rubble. Pipeworks has essentially wrapped the game in Unreal Engine 5: it’s meant to play like the original, but it looks a lot more modern.

The license comes from Toho International. Atari stresses that the remaster is a complete package with no battle pass and no paid extra monsters.

Twelve kaiju, eight arenas

Twelve playable kaiju are in at launch, including Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Gigan, Rodan, Anguirus, Megalon and Destoroyah. Each monster has its own combos, grabs and a chargeable beam attack. On top of that there are power-ups, for example to call in Mothra for backup.

Fights take place across eight arenas, each with a day and a night version. Buildings can be smashed, picked up and hurled at your opponent. New to the remaster: selectable weather effects for the arenas.

Modes: campaign, versus and destruction

Every monster gets its own campaign. There are also versus matches against the AI or friends, a destruction mode where you level a city as efficiently as possible, and a training mode with full move lists. Points earned in fights unlock new monsters, arenas and gallery art.

A big one for many fans: up to four players can play locally on one screen, and there are online matches as well. A local co-op mode is also new.

How the demo went down

Early hands-on impressions of the demo have been mostly positive. Players praise how closely the remaster sticks to the original while becoming more approachable thanks to new menus and move lists. Throwing buildings and firing lasers is a blast, but the stiff combat, shaky balance (Gigan’s teleport!) and visuals that still feel very GameCube drew criticism.

That matches our impression from videos and reports: if you’re expecting a fast, precise fighting game, you’ll be disappointed. If you want kaiju chaos on the couch with friends, that’s exactly what you get.

Our take

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is exactly what the name promises: a lovingly made remaster of a cult classic, not a reinvention. Twelve monsters, four-player couch multiplayer and a fair price with no shop make it a must-buy for kaiju fans.

Whether it can win over newcomers is another question. The sluggish combat and old-school look won’t be for everyone. We’ll follow up with our review once we’ve had proper time with it.
