Park Ranger Simulator has been available for PC and PlayStation 5 since 19 February 2026. We put on the ranger hat and tell you why the national park simulation by Polygon Art disappoints despite its pretty scenery.

Your own national park, wildlife, fires, boats and a helicopter: on paper Park Ranger Simulator sounds exactly like the simulation nature fans have been waiting for. German studio Polygon Art from Westerburg and publisher Aerosoft send you into the roughly 20 square kilometre Summit Vista National Park. In practice, though, the game trips over bugs, weak technology and tasks that quickly feel like chores.

Rating and verdict

Click a circle to see the reasoning.

Park Ranger Simulator has a nice idea and, at times, nice scenery. When the sun sets behind the lighthouse or you cross the lake by boat, you get a glimpse of what could have been. Nine vehicles, more than 50 missions and co-op for up to four players sound like plenty of content.

In everyday play, however, frustration wins. Mission bugs, wooden controls, high system requirements for mediocre visuals and an empty park drag the game down considerably. Players agree: only 17 percent of Steam reviews are positive. Until major patches arrive, we cannot recommend serving in Summit Vista National Park.

At PlayInsider we rate every game individually and always against the expectations of its genre. We judge the story of an action game or adventure by its narrative quality. In a simulation or management game, on the other hand, what counts is what the genre typically offers. This keeps our ratings fair and comparable within a genre.

Gameplay: daily life in Summit Vista National Park

In Park Ranger Simulator you start work as a ranger. You look after visitors, collect litter, repair facilities, observe wildlife and put out fires. With the money you earn you expand the park and unlock new equipment. A day-night cycle and dynamic weather are meant to make every day different.

The problem: it does not feel that way. Many tasks follow the same pattern: drive there, press a button, drive back. Visitors often just stand around, and long, uneventful drives separate the jobs. There is no story, which is normal for a simulation, but side characters or small events that bring the park to life are largely missing too.

Vehicles, missions and co-op

The vehicle line-up sounds strong: nine in total, including a pickup, quad bike, boat and helicopter. More than 50 missions send you all over the park. The driving feels wooden, though, and some players on Steam report missions that cannot be completed or disappear after a restart.

Co-op improves things a little. Up to four players can work together, even cross-platform between PC and PlayStation 5. With friends, empty moments stand out less, but the basic problems remain.

Technology, graphics and sound

Park Ranger Simulator runs on Unreal Engine 5, and in good light you can tell. Forests, lakes and mountains have beautiful spots, especially in the evening. Up close, though, textures, characters and animations look dated. The high system requirements do not match: even the minimum calls for 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2070, while 32 GB and an RTX 4070 are recommended. You can find the exact specs in the table below this text. According to Valve, the game does not run on Steam Deck.

Sound is the most solid part of the package. Birdsong, wind and water create a decent natural soundscape. Music and effects stay unremarkable, however. Text is available in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish, among others.
